Restoration

This unique residence is an example of PRM Construction’s dedication to restoration and renovation of period homes. The house was built in 1896 in the style of “Queen Anne Revival with West Coast American Influence”.

This style which developed into our “Federation” style of architecture did not generally appear in Australia until a number of years later so this house would have been well ahead of its time when built and was probably Architect designed as opposed to many houses of the period which were designed by builders. In the 1890’s it would have been considered a very modern house.

The photo on the left shows how the house had been de-featured during the 1950’s. The next photo was taken in 1940 and clearly shows the decorative features which were then scaled from that and another similar photo to produce working drawings to enable the restoration. During the works, evidence of the original period details and building techniques were uncovered, therefore confirming the dimensions taken from the photos.

The remaining views show the traditional period interior as well as more modern and exciting treatments in a PRM designed extension at the rear of the house including a double glazed, glass roofed conservatory and a distinctive Japanese themed bathroom.
