1920’s renovation and extension

This 1920’s period home which was originally single level was totally renovated by PRM. The original house was reminiscent of early Art Deco and Garden-Pavilion designs, drawing strong influences from American Prairie, Californian Bungalow and Australian Colonial styles.

The Architect designed extension, and two storey wing was built over a new underground wine cellar. This new section of the house faithfully recreates the original period features including the detailing of the colonnade which frames the courtyard. Construction materials and finishes typical to two storey period homes of that era were utilised. Many new timber windows and doors were installed, all matched to the original profiles of the house.

The house has a “smart wiring” home automation installation which allows for full integration and automation of the lighting, blinds, services and security system for the property. A home theatre and distributed audio / video system was also incorporated as was hydronic heating and airconditioning.

The terracotta shingled roof being a prominent feature of the house was subject to a painstaking restoration using salvaged and recycled shingles so as to maintain an “original” appearance. The use of new roofing materials would have resulted in a jarring and unpleasant appearance to the roof. Attention to details such as this ensure that period homes renovated by PRM Constructions represent a good investment for their owners.

Extensive landscaping works were also carried out by PRM Constructions.
